The Network’s goals include:
- Keeping abreast of members’ work to identify potential collaborations in local, state, national and international investigative stories.
- Providing start-up guidance and other help to new organizations.
- Providing shared administrative services, aiding in marketing and bringing the latest technology to its members.
- Helping members join with similar groups and with national partners to produce impactful stories that may otherwise not have been published.
- Distributing content through syndication and partnerships.
- Developing technology and business arrangements to showcase its work and produce new revenue streams
- Developing business models to support members’ work on a long-term basis.
Job Description:
INN’s Director of Technology will lead and manage the internal and external technology agenda for the organization and the Network, including managing INN’s web, mobile, widget and syndication technologies and deployments; leading shared technological initiatives across the Network and between the Network and external partners; staying abreast of leading and cutting-edge technologies impacting journalism and media distribution; acting as an educator and consultant for the benefit of the Network membership.
The goals of the position are to:
- Maintain a professional and high-quality digital presence for the Network.
- Help ensure the content produced by the Network reaches the widest audience possible through a range of leading-edge technologies and media.
- Ensure that the Network maintains the integrity of its content and its syndication feeds, both commercial and free to the public.
- Educate the members of the Network on the technologies that impact their journalism and, when necessary, work with them to oversee the deployment of their technology initiatives.
- Ensure that INN and its Members are thoroughly informed on the wide range of technologies and innovation impacting the production and distribution of journalism across media.
The Director of Technology will:
- Develop and implement a cohesive technology plan for the Network and its digital interface with the members and external partners.
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day management of the Network’s web site, weekly electronic newsletter and syndication feeds, including the management of all third-party technology relationships and partnerships.
- Manage the deployment of a INN-facilitated, shared CMS platform (currently on WordPress).
- Write articles, posts and white papers, for distribution both internally and externally, on topics that relate to technology, journalism and nonprofit news.
- Provide project- and topic-based consulting to Network members on an as-needed basis.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the Network mission in all work produced.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the CEO/Executive Director.
- Full Time.
- Preferable to work out of offices in Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles.
- Remote and work-from-home candidates will be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in technology, computer science or related field preferred
- Extensive experience working in Drupal, WordPress, MySQL, Google applications including Fusion Tables and HTML 5.0.
- Excellent written, visual and verbal communications.
- At least three to five years experience in a related field; experience working with journalists strongly preferred.
- Ability to be a self-starter, including setting and evaluating measurable goals for all projects.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and work with all members of the organization.
- Some travel required.
