Advancing sustainability & excellence in nonprofit public service journalism

Chicagotalks is a non-profit, local news source for Chicago and its many neighborhoods. Our stories come from all corners of the city; our reporters are young journalists learning to cover their communities and community people with a story to tell. We collaborate on investigations and share content with other local news sites, including WindyCitizen, Great Lakes Echo, Community Media Workshop, thebeachwoodreporter.com, Chicago News Cooperative, and others.

Ars Technica described ChicagoTalks as: ” a nuts and bolts neighborhood information hub that keeps its digital ear to the ground on everything from housing foreclosures to bike lanes. Fueled by citizen journalism, the site is constantly receiving and regurgitating the latest information about crime control, school budgets, and library hours.”

We’ve been online since 2006 as a non-profit, local news source for Chicago and its many neighborhoods. Our stories come from all corners of the city; from young journalists learning to report, from citizen journalists, from you.

Barbara Iverson and Suzanne McBride are the  founders and co-publishers of ChicagoTalks.org and AustinTalks.org , and are on the faculty of theJournalism Department at Columbia College Chicago.
