Advancing sustainability & excellence in nonprofit public service journalism

The St. Louis Beacon is a non-profit news organization dedicated to creating a better St. Louis powered by journalism. Founded by veteran journalists in Spring 2008, we focus on news that matters to people in our region. We combine rigorous commitment to high journalistic standards with vigorous innovation in digital and community engagement.

A beacon is a light to steer by. Our Beacon searches beyond initial appearances to find context, insight and deeper understanding. We challenge conventional wisdom, corruption, prejudice and nonsense. We take no editorial positions, but welcome thoughtful discussion from many points of view. In these ways, we aim to help you make up your own mind about important choices and challenges.

The Beacon connects with people in many ways — through our website; through Facebook, Twitter, and email newsletters; through in-person events; through our Public Insight Network; and through partnerships with other media and civic organizations.

Drawing on the knowledge, experience and support of many St. Louisans, the Beacon illuminates our region and shines outward to the world.
